Lichens are not single organisms, but a symbiotic association between fungus and plant.

They grow slowly and are associated with unpolluted habitat. Sensitive to light, moisture and temperature they are difficult to relocate, growth has been induced by coatings of beer, yogurt, skimmed milk and porridge have been tried.
